6 Free YouTube Workouts That are Truly Amazing!

Maybe you love working out, or maybe you just do it because you know it’s good for your overall health. Or perhaps you love to work out but you now have a family, a job, and general “life things” to try to fit into your days.

You may not have the luxury of having someone at your disposal to pass your little ones to so you can hit the gym for a couple hours anytime you choose, or you may be working for most of the day, for most of your days. This may mean that you want to get your exercise in from the comfort and ease of your own home, and these amazing and free YouTube workouts can definitely make working out a little easier.

The majority of us who do keep exercising through the craziness of life do it because we sincerely want to. Some of us crazy people actually really love to exercise and making sure that we find the time to do so is absolutely essential to our sanity, happiness, and general well being.

Benefits of Regular Exercise

Exercise comes in all shapes and forms. It can be a walk or run through your neighborhood, or a serious game of tag with your little ones, or even a very physical day at work. It doesn’t always have to be about cardio, weights, and the gym.

One of the most important aspects of “exercise” is to simply stay active and to keep moving. If you’ve read my post 7 amazing benefits of exercise, then you know that there are benefits to fitness beyond looks. Here are just a few:

  • Decreases risk of some health conditions and diseases such as type 2 diabetes, stroke, high blood pressure, depression, anxiety, metabolic syndrome, and multiple types of cancer

  • Improvement of your mood from day to day

  • Boosts your overall energy

  • Helps to regulate sleeping patterns

  • Helps to maintain a healthy weight

When I do find the time, I love the ritual of getting my exercise clothes on, setting up my weights, and getting focused on a specific 30-40 minute workout. Whether it be a workout of my own design, one of my beloved YouTube or DVD workouts, or a quick trip to the gym, I love the so-called ritual of dedicating 30 minutes to an hour to exercise. There is something therapeutic about it for me.

How to Exercise Without the Gym

A person doesn’t have to have a gym membership or a bunch of fancy equipment to get a good workout. In fact, you can get a complete and thorough workout with nothing more than a pair of dumbbells or your bodyweight and a bit of space in your living room. In this age of social media there is a plethora of free and amazing workouts one can find on YouTube.

I’m going to share with you some of my favorite YouTube instructors and point out 1 or 2 of their workouts. I’m going to share some beginner/intermediate workouts and also a few from some more advanced instructors. So, without further ado, here they are.

Jessica Smith

Beginner/Intermediate

A certified personal trainer who has a good variety of workouts. She is an excellent instructor to start with if you are just beginning to exercise. A motto of hers is “progress not perfection”, which is exactly my mentality when it comes to health and fitness. Check out these workouts from Jessica:

Christine Salus

Intermediate/Advanced

A fit health nut who has some crazy workouts in addition to health tips and recipes. Her workouts have basic and easy to follow moves, which does not mean easy! I wouldn’t recommend beginners start here. A couple to check out from Christine are:

Bodyfit by Amy

Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced

Amy has a great YouTube channel full of a wide range of workouts. Different types, lengths, and levels. She is also a great resource for prenatal/postnatal workouts. Here are a couple great options to check out:

I’d like to also include a few “honorable mentions” to my list. These are YouTube channels that I’ve only recently discovered and don’t know well enough to feel comfortable recommending specific workouts. Just explore them and decide for yourself!

GymRa

GymRa is a really great resource to for when you want to workout from home. This site has many different types of workouts to check out. So go to the channel and start browsing and start moving!

The WKOUT

Lisa Marie is the main face of The WKOUT. She is super fit and has some tough workouts, and a lot of them. Proceed with caution!

Fit Body by Julia

Julia is definitely advanced but totally amazing! She’ll definitely challenge you and I would not start with her if you’re new to exercise. But do check her out, she rocks!

Penny Barnshaw-Garage Fitness Girl

Penny is an energetic fitness guru who has a lot of intermediate & advanced workouts, and she also offers plenty of modifications for many of her moves. Penny has quite a variety of videos, many of which are no-repeat workouts for those of us who get bored easily!

Conclusion

The important takeaway is that exercise and movement don’t have to be difficult or expensive. Whether you’re a more experienced fitness pro or you’re new to the game, there is a workout for you. Just keep your body moving, feed it nutritious food, and the results will come to you!
